The Frostburg Museum is proud to present an exhibition by award winning photographer, Penny Knobel-Besa, November 4-December 4. The artist's opening reception will be held on November 14 from 5-8PM and is free to the public. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to come meet the artist from 6-8PM.
Knobel-Besa, who teaches the Art of Photography at her studio, stresses developing your artistic eye. Sometimes the most interesting photographs are just "Things Along The Way" which is the title for this exhibition. The photographs range from Istanbul where she shot the unique ceiling lights of a restaurant, captured another photographer's face among swirling skirts called "Gotcha" to underwater river grass in Slovenia.
"It is often the small and unexpected that make for interesting photographs,” says Knobel-Besa. "I was visiting the famous Istanbul bazaar and decided to shoot the textures of the beautiful silk scarves and then realized I had included the face of the merchant peering out. As a candid photographer I often shoot hoping to capture the natural movement of people. And when I miss a shot I feel like a fisherman talking about the one that got away, I still remember that cow next to waving laundry in a yard in Nova Scotia."
Several photos show movement from the world famous "Whirling Dervishes" to a photo taken through the front window of a moving car in Austria, "Rainy Day Drive." The public is invited to meet the photographer at 6PM on November 14 and explore this exhibition together while she discusses the photographs from Turkey, Slovenia, and Austria.
